Local Bahá’i community leads drive to help area food bank

Community drive collected nearly 80 boxes of food for Elmvale Community Food Bank over two-week period

The Elmvale Community Food Bank recently received about 80 boxes of food collected during a food drive organized by the Bahá’i Community of Tiny.

Conducted over a two-week period, the food drive began earlier this year when the Bahá’i Community of Tiny took on the initiative to invite 11 organizations within the township to join them in a collaborative effort.

Many township-based organizations and schools enthusiastically opted to participate since the overall goal was to create an outreach project that would work towards building a more unified and vibrant community.

Bahá’í Community representative Darlene Paterson noted a special thank you goes out two Grade 6 Wyevale Central Public School students Evelyn and Elora who employed their talent and entrepreneurship to raise $276 during the two-week drive.

"The girls made and sold their Friendship Loom jewellery at the school during their break times as well as encouraging their friends to create their own jewellery with the sale of their kits," Paterson said. "Well done girls!"

She added: "A huge thank you goes out to all the participants that came on board to make this endeavour such a success."

Paterson thanked all Tiny residents who contributed donations to the following organizations that were involved with the initiative: Tiny Township council, Tiny Township Fire Department, Tiny Township Lions Club, École Sainte-Croix, Wyevale Central Public School, Wyevale United Church, Georgian Shores Swinging Seniors, Le Club de l’Ȃge d’Or, and the North Baha’i Community.
