The Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) Foundation is raising funds for End Tidal C02 Monitors this Giving Tuesday – a global movement for giving and volunteering, taking place each year after Black Friday. Just as Black Friday kicks off the holiday shopping season, Giving Tuesday is the 'unofficial' opening day of the giving season.

In honour of this international day of giving, the GBGH Foundation is asking the community to help purchase two specialty monitors ($16,000 each) to give our care teams the clear information they need to assess patients and make confident decisions, ensuring safety and peace of mind for our patients and their families.

When patients come in for a planned scope – colonoscopy for example – our care teams provide a combination of sedatives and pain medication to make the experience more tolerable. But, like any medication of this kind, this comes with some risk. The current vital signs monitors are great for most situations in the hospital, but the Specialty C02 Monitors provide an increased level of safety. They alert the care team to any breathing complications so that they can intervene quickly.

To help the foundation achieve their goal of purchasing two End Tidal C02 Monitors, Nick and Marina Boudouris have offered to match all donations on Giving Tuesday, up to a total of $10,000.

“The hospital is so important in our community. We want to help make sure that our care teams are alerted to any breathing complications as soon as possible during routine procedures,” says Nick Boudouris, owner of OPA Catering, the World Famous Dock Lunch, Pier 21 and operator of Restaurant Sainte-Marie. “I challenge all of our local businesses to join me in supporting this campaign – I’ll match your donation dollar-for-dollar so we can buy these monitors.”

Businesses, media and individuals can get involved by joining the conversation on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, sharing our stories and posts on social media, and making a donation on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
