Helix IT acquires Midland tech company

Helix IT will work with MTN customers on existing service agreements and new design and installation projects

Helix IT Inc., a national full-service information technology company, today announced they have acquired MTN Communication Systems (MTN), based in Midland, Ont.

MTN has been serving Simcoe County and the surrounding area with voice and data cabling solutions, voice processing, call accounting, business telephone systems, public address systems and IP security camera installations since 1985. With this agreement, Helix IT will work with MTN customers on existing service agreements and new design and installation projects.

MTN was established by Mike Proulx 36 years ago to service Midland and the surrounding area with voice and data cabling services. The business was later taken over by Mike’s son, Matt, who continued the personalized service for which the company was known. Over the years, MTN has worked with many area businesses, as well as industrial and government clients.

Helix IT Inc. began in 2009 in Orillia, Ont. to offer structured cabling services. Since then, the company has expanded across Canada, with offices in Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver and Kitimat, BC, as well as a sister company in Bermuda. Today, Helix IT offers expertise in a range of technologies, including Managed IT services, networking support, WiFi, access control, audio/visual systems and security and surveillance.

The well-established and loyal customer base of MTN is welcomed into the Helix IT organization. In addition to offering the company’s full suite of services, Helix IT will continue to support the legacy Toshiba telephone systems in place across the MTN customer base as well as NEC Business Telephone Solutions systems.
