Severn Sound Environmental Association (SSEA) received a grant from Huronia Community Foundation’s (HCF) Environment Fund, and Tom and Lucille Gay Memorial Endowment Fund to purchase aquatic plant rakes that will help local citizen scientists monitor for invasive species.

Aquatic plant rakes are an important sampling tool for early detection and rapid response to priority invasive species.

Aquatic invasive species monitoring is a major component of the Invasive Species Spotters project, one of several initiatives of the SSEA’s Citizen Science program. Citizen science involves community members as volunteer scientists, drawing on local knowledge and passion for important places.
