As part of its dissolution, the German Canadian Club, Gemuetlichkeit 70, is providing some perfect Valentine's gifts to eight local organizations.

The nearly $300,000  that comes from sale of its property on Triple Bay Road is being distributed throughout the month.

On Tuesday, Askennonia Senior Centre received a donation of $14,300 from the club to help with their expenses.

"There are no strings attached," club president Helmut Paddags told Askennoia's board as he presented the gift. "Spend it on whatever you need."

Added Contin: "We really appreciate you thinking of us. Thank you very much."

After 52 years, the club was dissolved last November due to shrinking membership and lack of volunteers to manage the affairs of the club. As a non-profit, any assets have to be distributed to charities.

Askennonia is the first of eight charities to receive funds from the sale of the property on Triple Bay Road. On Friday, club members will visit Georgian Bay General Hospital Foundation offices to bequeath another cheque.

Other groups receiving doantions are the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre, Georgian Shores Swinging Seniors, Hospice Huronia/Tomkins House, La Maison Rosewood Shelter, Unity United Church and Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre.
