Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre volunteer Sandra Baldwin and CEO Eric Walter are collecting items for this Saturday's community yard sale and barbecue in Penetanguishene.

Those looking for artwork, furniture, children’s toys, housewares, or garden supplies won’t want to miss the community yard sale and barbecue Saturday at the Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre in Penetanguishene.

Items were coming into the 45 Edward St. facility car load after car load Tuesday.

“It’s a true yard sale,” Sandra Baldwin, one of the volunteer organizers, said between unloading duties.

“This is the inaugural community garage sale for the cancer support centre. We’ve never adventured into this before, but the community has been so incredible with us and here they are again giving us all their extra stuff, so we just really want to see them on Saturday morning.”

Eric Walker, the centre’s executive director, said funds raised through the event will go toward support programs and services for people who are experiencing cancer, as well as their families.

“We are the only local cancer support centre of this kind in the region,” he said.

He is looking forward to introducing new people to the centre. There will be tours and informational brochures available.

“It’s a chance for people to learn about us and, hopefully, if somebody needs us at some point, they will know where to turn,” he said.

The Elmvale Lions Club will operate the barbecue at the event.

For dessert, ice cream sundaes with butter tart sauce will be available for a donation.
