A fine arts gallery in Wasaga Beach, under the umbrella of the Wasaga Society for the Arts, the Stonebridge Art Gallery, is hosting the second annual Inspired by a Lifetime seniors’ exhibit from Feb. 8 to March 30, 2024.

The exhibit includes seniors residences from all around the area such as Leacock Retirement Lodge, Waterside Retirement Lodge, Bayfield House Retirement Residence, Chartwell Whispering Pines, Aspira Waterford Retirement Residence, Woods Park Care Centre, Chartwell Allandale Station Retirement Residence and Lavita Barrington Retirement Residence.

All of the participating artists have been taking art therapy classes with instructor Lisa Harpell (Creative Madness Art Studios, Elmvale), and have advanced so much since last year that they appear to be more confident in showing their work, so much so that the size of the canvases grew to 16 by 20 inches this year, and although they all found it a little daunting, the time, effort and stories while they created made it less scary.

The idea was born out of the pandemic to get the seniors’ work up on gallery walls in order for the artists to realize how incredibly talented they were — that, coupled with a reason to get out and have a field trip to an art gallery in Wasaga Beach. Once on board, all the artists, family, friends and the support from the lifestyle managers and staff made this unique exhibit happen that will grow even more every year.
