The Culture Alliance is challenging area residents to test their knowledge of local trivia during the month of September.
As part of the Culture Alliance’s #30DaysOfCulture initiative, where they challenge locals to participate in a cultural activity for each of the 30 days of September, this year they are including a virtual scavenger hunt.
For each of the 30 days in September, a clue will be posted on the Culture Alliance’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts at @CultureGBay. Once participants think they know the answer, they need to visit the Cultural Asset map at www.culturealliance.ca/culturalassets to find the correct point on the map that will reveal a special code.
Participants can download a tracking sheet from the website and enter their daily codes. At the end of the month, tracking sheets can be emailed or mailed to the Culture Alliance for the chance to win one of five local prize packages valued at $55 each.
“We hope that individuals and families alike participate in finding the codes on the map,” said Cindy Hastings, chair of the Culture Alliance. “It is a fun way to learn more about the history of our area and to discover some really interesting facts that make our area so unique.”
In addition to participating in the scavenger hunt, the community is invited to add pins or points to the map to identify cultural assets in the Heart of Georgian Bay area. Assets can include, but are not limited to, landmarks, buildings, museums, plaques, conservation areas, parks, public art installations, and studios. The Culture Alliance is also looking to gather information about creative individuals, cultural organizations and groups, plus festivals and events which can’t be mapped.
The Culture Alliance is a joint committee that was created in 2019 to serve the communities of Beausoleil First Nation, Midland, Penetanguishene, Tay and Tiny.
