A local car dealer has provided some much needed fuel for Georgian Bay General Hospital.
Bourgeois Auto Group owners Adam and Beth Bourgeois recently donated $100,000 to GBGH to help address the facility's highest capital priorities over the next decade.
“Beth and I were both born and raised in the Midland area, and we feel a strong obligation to give back,” Adam Bourgeois said.
“The community has been great to us, they have supported all of our businesses, and so the hospital was the logical choice to impact as many people as we could with one donation.”
Jen Russell, GBGH Foundation development & communications officer, said that the funds will support the support the IMPACT Fund, which addresses the highest priority capital needs each year.
"There are examples of what the funds might support, but the reason we have an impact fund is so that we can be flexible with the funds in case other more critical priorities come up (ie. global pandemic response)," Russell said.
"This year, one of the urgent priorities is replacing the hospital’s central monitoring system. In the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), monitoring of vital signs is an essential part of patient care, as changes in heart rate, heart rhythm, blood pressure and respiration rate can indicate the need for intervention."
Russell said the central monitoring system is comprised of advanced patient monitors and specialized software, which monitors patients in all departments and delivers the real-time data back to the ICU desk.
She added: "The entire system has reached the end of life and must be replaced."
For more than two decades, the Bourgeois family has been giving back to GBGH with support for annual equipment appeals, the Our Best Care campaign, Buy a Bed program and numerous golf tournaments.
Added GBGH Foundation executive director Nicole Kraftscik: “Bourgeois Auto Group, and the Bourgeois family, are such great supporters of our community and of the hospital.
“Their philanthropic leadership has inspired support over the years, and I am confident this elevated partnership with GBGH will continue to bring people together for local healthcare for years to come.”
With this year’s gift, Bourgeois Auto Group is encouraging the community to support GBGH through monthly giving, by matching all new monthly donations to the GBGH Foundation. Bourgeois Auto Group is also a proud sponsor of this year’s Power of Giving virtual gala, taking place on Saturday, August 21.
