Another record-setting day for COVID cases in Ontario with 1,581

It was another record-setting day for the number of COVID-19 cases being reported in the province, with Ontario Public Health announcing 1,581 new cases on Saturday. 

That ushers in the seventh record set in November for daily case counts, narrowly eclipsing Thursday's mark of 1,575.

Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott said this morning that the highest number of cases today are coming out of Peel Region (497), Toronto (456), York Region (130), and Ottawa (77).

Twenty more people have died with the virus since the last provincial report on Friday, bringing the death toll in Ontario to 3,332. 

There have now been 92,761 cases of the virus in Ontario since the pandemic began in March. Of those, 77,241 people have recovered, including 1,003 since yesterday's provincial report. 

There are 12,188 active cases in the province. 

More than 44,800 tests were also completed in the previous 24 hours, but there are still 38,767 cases that remain under investigation. 

According to the province, there are 502 people hospitalized with the virus, including 107 in intensive care and 66 patients on ventilators. 

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 1,634 cases of COVID-19, with 1,551 of those in Simcoe County. There are 1,410 cases listed as recovered in the region. Eight people are currently hospitalized, and of those seven are Simcoe County residents. The health unit has recorded 50 deaths.

The incidence rate for Simcoe County is 294 cases per 100,000 people.
