Annual train show chugging along in Midland

Midland District Railroad Club Train Show draws passionate crowd; event continues Sunday

The Midland District Railroad Club Train Show was off the rails this year at the North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre, inviting visitors to step aboard with their passion for the railway.

“My favourite part is the attention to detail, the crowd, and the atmosphere,” said local resident Brian Killick. “I’ve been coming for 16 or 17 years, since I couldn’t see the top of the tables.”

The train show drew attention from across Ontario.

“We have people coming from all over southern Ontario and some from Powassan and New Liskeard in the north,” said Midland District Railroad Club member Richard Smalls.

The show had a wide range of model trains for purchase to help throw coal to the locomotive of any train hobbyist.

“My granddaughter, Eliza, has a couple of trains of her own, and even though you have enough stuff, you may see something you just have to have,” said Case deJong. “We’ve been coming since she was four, and this is an annual thing for us.”

The show features a diverse collection of model railroads from not just North America, but also the United Kingdom.

The event continues Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Midland District Railroad Club consists of 25 members, ranging in age from 10 to 93, and encourages everyone to join and share their passion. More information about the club and how to join can be found on its Facebook page.
