Parking metres like this one are now found throughout Midland's downtown core.

MidlandToday welcomes letters to the editor at [email protected]. Please include your daytime phone number and address (for verification of authorship, not publication). This letter is response to a story March 5 entitled 'Midland gets creative with paid parking options.'

Dear Editor,

We understand the aim of the Midland municipal authorities to improve revenue performance through paid parking in the town core.

The objective is worthy, but quite simply, any paid parking is going to directly divert shoppers and consumers away from Midland.

Parking is free at the big box and other stores on the fringes of Midland. Downtown Midland businesses (employers and taxpayers) will only suffer further, now and in the longer term after the debilitating pandemic.

Please encourage your esteemed readers to bring their quest for goods and services to our town of Penetanguishene. Parking is free and everyone is more than welcome.

Meanwhile, for its own benefit, the Midland Town Council may wish to explore alternative sources of revenue. ... or perhaps rather NOT, from the point of view of the Historic Town of Penetanguishene, and your favourite neighbours!
