Three new COVID cases in south Simcoe County today

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported three new cases of COVID in the region today. 

The health unit reported zero cases yesterday and six on Monday.

All three new cases reported today are in the southern part of Simcoe County with two cases in New Tecumseth and one new case in Bradford West Gwillimbury. 

The Bradford case is a woman between 65 and 79 years old, and her case is community-acquired. 

The New Tecumseth cases are both males, one between 45 and 64 years old and the other between 18 and 34 years old. The first case is a close contact transmission, the second case is under investigation. 

These new cases bring New Tecumseth's incidence rate up to 200 cases per 100,000 people. It is the second-highest municipal incidence rate in the region, following Bradford, where the rate is 302 cases per 100,000 people. Simcoe Muskoka has an average incidence rate of 110 cases per 100,000 of people in the population, but the municipalities in the south end of the region tend to have higher infection rates.

The health unit has also reported four new recoveries, including the last remaining active case in Collingwood. One person from Midland who was previously hospitalized has now been discharged from hospital.

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 655 cases of COVID-19 to date, with 624 of those cases located in Simcoe County. There are 593 cases now recovered and 36 people have died in the region. The health unit indicates there are 26 active cases in the region – all in Simcoe County – and three of those cases are hospitalized.

In Simcoe Muskoka, the incidence rate for the coronavirus is 110.2 cases per 100,000 people in the population.
