NEWS RELEASE
TOWNSHIP OF TINY
*************************
The Township of Tiny is pivoting its position on seasonal residents to align with both the Province and the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.

Provincial regulations now permit the operation of short-term rentals, and most regions of Ontario (including Simcoe Muskoka) have moved into Stage 2 of the reopening framework.

As a result, we realize that more people will be visiting their seasonal residences. Because of this, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has released the following updated recommendations regarding seasonal residents.

Many people will be coming to our area to visit their cottage or seasonal residence. Many may be coming from areas of higher COVID-19 transmission (e.g. the GTA) than what we are currently experiencing in Simcoe Muskoka.

COVID-19 continues to be a health threat; therefore, we must all continue to be vigilant and protect ourselves and others from spreading COVID-19.

If you are a cottager in Simcoe Muskoka, please ensure that you continue to practice the following public health measures, both here and at home:

  • Practise physical distancing to reduce exposure to other people. This means staying at least 2 metres (6 feet) away from anyone outside your household.
  • Social gatherings and public events of up to 10 people (including members of your household) are allowed, while maintaining physical distancing.
  • Wear a non-medical mask or face covering when physical distancing is not possible.
  • Stay at your property as much as possible.
  • If you are coming from a region of high COVID-19 transmission (e.g. GTA), purchase food, supplies and medications in your primary community before arriving at your cottage and limit visits to the local community for essential shopping only.
  • Practice proper and frequent handwashing and cough hygiene, and self-isolate if you develop symptoms.

The Township’s Municipal Emergency Control Group continues to monitor the evolving COVID-19 situation. Municipal services and restrictions are adjusted based on Provincial Emergency Orders and recommendations from public health experts. It is critical that everyone adheres to Provincial Orders, public health recommendations and municipal restrictions in order to flatten the curve and avoid a second wave.
