Six new COVID-19 cases confirmed in Simcoe County today

New cases include a Tay Township man and a Penetanguishene woman

The region's health unit has confirmed six new cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County today. 

Of the six new cases, transmission sources for five are still under investigation. 

A Bradford man between 35 and 44 years old is the lone community-acquired case listed today. This is the second case reported in Bradford West-Gwillimbury this month. Bradford has the highest incidence rate in the region with 290 cases of COVID per 100,000 people. 

The five other cases reported today include a Barrie woman between 18 and 34 years old; a Tay man and an Essa woman, both between 45 and 54 years old; an Innisfil man between 35 and 44 years old; and a Penetanguishene woman over the age of 80. 

Today's report includes Barrie's 200th case of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and the 18th Barrie case reported this month.

This is Tay's first case reported in July. 

There have been no recoveries reported by Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit today, and one more hospitalization is noted – a Penetanguishene case.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 47 cases of COVID-19 in the region this month, with 18 of those reported so far this week. 

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 645 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region to date, with 614 of those reported in Simcoe County. 

Thirty-six people have died in Simcoe County and Muskoka and the health unit has reported 566 recoveries. The incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 108.5 cases per 100,000 people in the population. 

There are 42 active cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County including four people hospitalized, according to the health unit's July 23 epidemiological report. There is one active, hospitalized case in Muskoka District.
