Health unit reports 75 new COVID cases in region since Friday

There are three news cases in Tay, one in Tiny Township and one in Penetanguishene, health unit reports

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 75 new COVID-19 cases in the region today, the highest increase yet. 

The health unit reported a total of 50 cases for the whole month of August and 60 cases for the month of July, both fewer than the 75 cases confirmed in the last three days. 

There are three new cases in Tay and one in Tiny Township today, including a boy and a girl under 18 from Tay (close contact), a woman between 35 and 44 years old from Tay (community-acquired), and a man between 35 and 44 years old from Tiny (under investigation). 

One of the new cases involves a woman from Penetanguishene between 65 and 79 years old (close contact), 

Two Collingwood residents are among those who have been confirmed as cases by the health unit today. They include two women, one between 18 and 34 years old and the other between 45 and 64 years old. The first is under investigation and the second is community-acquired.

There are also two new cases in Clearview Township today including a man between 65 and 79 years old whose case is linked to a workplace outbreak and a woman over the age of 80 whose transmission is linked to close contact. 

There's one new case in Wasaga Beach today too, a woman over the age of 80. Her case is under investigation. 

There are 12 new cases in Barrie today including three youth under 18 years old. One of the cases, a boy under 18, is linked to an educational setting outbreak. There are four women and one man between 18 and 34 also on today's case list. One of the women acquired the virus through a workplace outbreak, the other three are community-acquired and the man's case is linked to close contact. There are two men between 45 and 64 years old from Barrie who have also tested positive for COVID-19. One is a close contact case, the other is under investigation. 

In Bradford West Gwillimbury there are 15 new cases, including one boy under 18 (close contact), two women and seven men between 18 and 34 years old (four close contact, three under investigation, and two community-acquired), a man between 35 and 44 years old (under investigation), and two women and two men between 45 and 64 years old (two community-acquired, one under investigation, one close contact). 

In Innisfil there are eight new cases including one woman between 18 and 34 years old (under investigation), two women and two men between 35 and 44 years old (all close contact), two women between 45 and 64 years old (one under investigation, one close contact), and a woman between 65 and 79 years old (close contact). 

Twenty-three of today's new cases are residents of New Tecumseth, including a boy, a girl, and a youth under 18, a woman and four men between 18 and 34 years old, four women and two men between 35 and 44 years old, two women and two men between 45 and 64 years old, and two women and three men between 65 and 79 years old. Eight of the New Tecumseth cases are linked to close contact, four are community-acquired, and the rest are under investigation. 

There are three community-acquired cases from Ramara noted in today's new cases, including a boy under 18, a man between 18 and 34 years old, and a man between 45 and 64 years old. 

The remaining four cases reported today include a man between 65 and 79 years old from Adjala-Tosorontio (close contact), an Essa man between 45 and 64 years old (close contact), a Gravenhurst woman over 80 years old (institutional outbreak), and a man between 18 and 34 whose residence and transmission source is pending. 

In the local region, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 1,429 cases of COVID-19, with 1,348 of those in Simcoe County. There are 1,166 cases listed as recovered. Six people are currently hospitalized. The health unit has recorded 50 deaths.

The incidence rate for Simcoe County is 255 cases per 100,000 people.
