Providing food to those in need can be difficult at the best of times. With COVID-19, the task has become particularly challenging. Yet food banks continue to be leaders in their communities in providing food to those who live with food insecurity. These organizations needed to quickly respond to increased demand resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, Enbridge Gas Inc. has partnered with the Township of Tiny to contribute a total of $5000 to four local food banks in North Simcoe.

Biké Balkanci, Director of Enbridge GTA West/Niagara said, “Enbridge’s commitment to our communities goes beyond providing the energy they need to heat their homes and fuel their lives each and every day. The coronavirus respiratory disease (COVID-19) is a virus unprecedented in its impact on people and communities and we want to do our part to help those most in need during these extraordinary times.”

The financial contribution from Enbridge continues to allow these organizations to provide sufficient quantities of affordable, nutritious food for the residents of Tiny, Tay, Midland and Penetanguishene. The recipient organizations are:

  • Operation Grow;
  • Salvation Army Midland;
  • St. Vincent de Paul, St. Margaret's Conference, Food Pantry; and
  • The Good Food Box.

Mayor George Cornell said, “In April 2020, the Township made the difficult decision to cancel the annual Mayor’s Charity Golf Tournament. To date, the fundraising event has contributed more than $230,000 to over 20 North Simcoe organizations. Since 2016, Enbridge Gas has been a dedicated event sponsor. This year, they wished to continue their sponsorship, generously increasing their contribution in support of COVID-19 relief. In partnership with the Township and consistent with Enbridge’s donation strategy, we identified four local food banks to receive the monetary donations.”

The Township of Tiny continues to coordinate with generous sponsors and local charitable organizations to ensure the delivery of essential services to the community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
