Swinging for a Cause: Tee Off for Mental Health event raises nearly $15,000 for local mental health programs

The Canadian Mental Health Association Simcoe County Branch continues to prioritize mental health support for the community

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Simcoe County Branch provides resources and support to youth, adults and their families facing mental health and addiction challenges.

As a non-profit organization, CMHA Simcoe County relies heavily on the support of the community to raise awareness about mental health issues.

Fundraising efforts, volunteering and community engagement events are crucial in supporting programs and services that are not fully funded. By working with the community, CMHA Simcoe County can enhance mental health services and strive for improved mental well-being.

The recent "Tee Off for Mental Health" event at the Tangle Creek Golf and Country Club successfully raised nearly $15,000, with all proceeds contributing to mental health initiatives within the community.

This in-person golf tournament marked a significant step towards community engagement since the pandemic.

Attendees, sponsors and community partners gathered to share stories, engage in conversations about mental health and support the cause.

"We strive to be a leader in providing services, advocacy and education for all individuals seeking mental health support," said Lynne Raimondi, Manager of Fundraising, Communications and Volunteers at CMHA Simcoe County Branch.

“Having a presence in the community as a mental health service allows more opportunity to break down the stigma in the area,” said Raimondi.

Striving to make a significant impact in the Midland community, the organization offers several programs tailored to meet the needs of the community.

The Early Psychosis Intervention Program (EPI) offers services to youth experiencing first-episode psychosis, including individual and group treatment, family support and education.

The Justice Program provides support to individuals with mental illness involved in the criminal justice system or facing criminal charges.

The Transitional Rehabilitation Housing Program (TRHP) and Forensic Supportive Housing Program (FSHP) support adults from the Waypoint Center for Mental Health Care Regional Forensics Unit, providing safe reintegration into the community.

CMHA Simcoe County offers virtual programs and services, allowing individuals to access assistance in a way that is comfortable to them.

In addition to the programs, a crisis line is offered and operates 24/7, 705-728-5044 (local) – 1-888-893-8333 (toll-free), for anyone requiring immediate support.
