It is with great sadness that we tell you of Ken’s passing at Hospice Huronia on November 4th after a lengthy struggle with Melanoma. Ken was the loving husband of Jan (nee Tomlinson) and devoted loving father of Jonathan (Tarra). He was the much beloved grandfather of Eva, Brooklyn, and Scott. They were his pride and joy.

Ken was born and raised in Penetanguishene. The son of Tom and Leona Popple. Known by many as Kid and then Pops as the years passed. He was a good athlete and he played on many area hockey and softball teams and enjoyed success in both high school and university athletics. After graduating from the University of Guelph in Kinesiology, Ken returned to work at The Mental Health Centre where he became the Director of Vocational and Recreation Services. Ken will be remembered for his involvement with minor hockey and baseball; his knack for woodworking and his green thumb in the garden. He liked travelling through the southern states following his interest in the civil war as well as winter trips to Mexico.

He was a good husband, father, and friend. He was a fine man and he will be missed. We would like to express our thanks to all those who have given us so much help and support throughout Ken’s illness. A special thank you to Dr. Jason Yu, RVH oncology; Dr. Donald Woods; Kristy and Nicole from Bayshore Home Care and all the wonderful staff and volunteers at Hospice Huronia.

As Ken wished, cremation has taken place. His ashes will be interred with his father Tom at St. James on-the-Lines cemetery. There will not be a funeral service. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. If you wish to pay tribute to Ken through a charitable donation we would appreciate you directing your gift to Hospice Huronia. We are very fortunate to have such a remarkable service in our community.
