A second person has tested positive for COVID-19 at Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital (OSMH).

A hospital official confirmed the information Friday afternoon.

The person was tested at OSMH on March 15 and had travelled outside the country.

It's unknown if the patient is male or female and where they travelled. The person is self-isolating.

There were 50 new cases confirmed in Ontario this morning, bringing the provincial total to more than 300.

Earlier today, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported three new confirmed cases of COVID-19, including the one in Orillia mentioned above, as well as Collingwood's first positive test result at General and Marine Hospital, and Alliston's first positive case at Stevenson Memorial Hospital.

The local health unit now has eight confirmed cases and another two “probable” cases in Simcoe County.

One of the two fatalities in Canada also happened in our region when a man in his 70s died at Barrie's Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH).
