North Simcoe alive with sound of music as festival takes flight

An annual spring tradition brings the sound music to the area next week.

Beginning Monday, the Midland Y’s Men’s Music Festival kicks off with young singers, instrumentalists and school choirs from across north Simcoe performing in a range of categories.

“We are happy the festival is back showcasing our local students in disciplines of recorder, strings, instrumental, bands/small ensembles, vocals, piano and guitar,” festival director Victoria Warwick said.

“The final concert, Festival of the Stars, will be held Wednesday, May 29 at St. Theresa’s High School in Midland, and will be an event you won’t want to miss!.”

Here is the schedule of sessions:

French vocals April 22, 23 and 24 at École élémentaire catholique Sainte-Croix

Instrumental May 1, 2 and 3 at Georgian Bay District Secondary School

Piano May 6, 7 and 8 at St Paul’s United Church

English vocals May 8, 9 and 10 at St Paul’s United Church

Guitar May 17 at Midland Alliance Church

This year’s adjudicators are: French vocals (Kelly Lefaive and Jason Nedecky), instrumental (Mary Ann Fratia and Mark Caswell), piano and English vocals (Natalie Pratt) and guitar (Shawn Pickup).

Entry is $5 at the door.
