The following letter is in response to an article about the cancellation of a school play, published Jan. 26

Dear editor,

If I am confused, then many others are also.

The (alleged) racist/bigot not only seemingly gets away with his behaviour but the show cannot go forward if his spot is recast. So Beauty and the Beast is cancelled.

How can we and more importantly the students respect the educators who hide behind "no comment" and pass the buck up the hierarchy to the top who makes the inane comment that the cancellation had nothing to do with all of this?

What are they afraid of? Legal action by the bad apple’s parents?

As Marcellus says in Hamlet: "Something is rotten in the state of Denmark."
