With one local Tim Horton’s location reopening after a positive COVID-19 case, another restaurant is now closed.

The coffee chain's Midland location at the corner of Bay Street and Midland Avenue is “temporarily closed due to the evolving health situation” a sign on the door tells patrons.

Brian and Joanne Smith, who own the downtown Midland franchise as well as one in Waubaushene, didn't return calls seeking comment by press-time.

But Michael Johnston, an assistant manager at the Waubaushene location, said the restaurant reopened on Friday after being closed for a week due to a positive COVID-19 staff case.

He said the location underwent a thorough cleaning to ensure it was safe for patrons and staff before reopening. Johnston said he doesn't know why the Midland location is now closed.

Leslie Gordon, a spokeswoman with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, said her organization doesn't have any information about either location’s closure.

“If there was an outbreak of a Food and Beverage Services workplace in Simcoe County, you could find it listed on our HealthSTATS page,” she said.

“If there was an outbreak that included patrons of a business it would be considered a Community outbreak and there is a chart for those as well. Individual cases would not be identified other than on our case list.”

Since the pandemic began, there have been five outbreaks and 21 total cases at food and beverage service providers in the health unit’s catchment area.
