Woman dead after crash between train, car in Severn Township

The incident occured on Upper Big Chute Road earlier today; OPP say trained collision investigators are on the scene to determine what happened

A woman has died after the car she was driving collided with a train at a rail crossing in Severn Township Sunday afternoon.

Orillia OPP could not provide the age of the woman nor could they say where she's from as the investigation is in its early stages.

The tragic incident occurred today at 2:18 p.m. 

According to a media release, members of the Orillia OPP and emergency crews responded to the report of a crash involving a train and a car on Upper Big Chute Road, Severn Township.

The incident occurred at a rail crossing just east of the Irish Line.

Police say a lone female operating a car came into contact with a train at that location. The female was pronounced deceased at the scene which is being investigated by members of the OPP Central Region TIME Team that consists of trained collision investigators.

Police say the road is expected to reopen shortly.
