Vehicle, train collide in Severn; 3 hospitalized

Three people were taken to hospital in the wake of the collision at a railroad crossing on Mount St. Louis Road Saturday afternoon

Orillia OPP provided an update to this incident Sunday morning.

Police say they, along with paramedics, were called to the area of Highway 12 and Mount St. Louis Road, on Saturday ay around 5:30 p.m.

Police say that while the railway signals were engaged, a vehicle entered the path of the train, causing a collision.

Three occupants in the vehicle were transported to local hospitals, police noted in a media release. 

The road was closed for several hours, but has reopened.

"The OPP asks all drivers to use caution when approaching railway crossings. Trains are always much closer than they appear. Be ready to stop," said the medial release.

Several people have been taken to hospital after a train collided with a vehicle in Severn Township Saturday afternoon.

The incident happened at a railway crossing on Mount St. Louis Road, between Line 9 North and Line 10 North.

The OPP is on scene and Canadian Pacific's investigation unit has been called.

The train is blocking crossings from the Copeland Forest to Eady. 

It's expected Mount St. Louis Road will be closed for several hours and people are urged to avoid the area while the incident is investigated.
