Vehicle stuck in Midland trail leads to impaired charge

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Southern Georgian Bay detachment were contacted on April 22, 2020 at 11:30 p.m. regarding a vehicle that had entered a trail and became stuck in the Sunnyside area of Midland. 

Police attended the scene and located the vehicle while the driver was in the process of trying to remove it. Upon encountering the police the driver fled from the vehicle on foot and was apprehended a short distance away. Police noted signs of impairment as well as the smell of alcohol on the breath of the driver and placed him under arrest for impaired driving. 

As a result of the investigation, Jordan Maurice, 26 years, of Midland, was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:   

  • Operation while impaired 
  • Operation while alcohol concentration - 80 or over

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Aug. 6, 2020.
