Truck into ditch leads to charge against Penetanguishene man

A Penetanguishene man faces impaired driving charges after his truck went into the ditch on the 4th Concession of Tiny Township around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police attended the scene and assisted in removing the male from his vehicle.

While investigating the collision, it was noted that the driver was displaying signs of alcohol consumption. A roadside screen test was performed and, as a result, the male was arrested and transported to the detachment to provide breath samples.

Ernest Schaump, 64, of Penetanguishene was charged with operation over 80 mg.

The driver’s license of the accused has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was towed to be impounded for seven days. The accused was released from police custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

Police remind motorists that enforcement is essential to save lives and reduce injuries on our trails, roadways and waterways. Educating the public about safe driving practices is a priority.
