Tiny man faces impaired charge

Officers checked over 200 vehicles during nine area RIDE checks

As the weather report indicates another nice sunny August weekend, members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will be doing their part to ensure public safety on area road and waterways this weekend. The Marine Unit will have extra staff this weekend observing and checking vessels in known problem areas as well as officers on land will be conducting R.I.D.E. check stops on area roadways over the weekend.

This week, officers conducted nine different R.I.D.E. check stops checking over 200 vehicles and drivers for drinking and driving offences on area roadways.

On Aug. 3, 2020 at 9:17 p.m.an OPP officer patrolling Rue Lafontaine Road west in Tiny Township stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation and upon speaking with the driver the officer entered into a drinking and driving investigation. The resulting investigation lead to Tobenna Ezeokonkwo, 28 years, of Tiny Township being charged with Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused was served a 90 day drivers licence suspension and seven day vehicle impound as per the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) program and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Oct. 29, 2020.

Police remind motorists that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our trails, roadways and waterways.
