Teens face stunt driving charges after racing on Midland streets

An 18-year-old Midland driver faces stunt driving, cannabis charges after being stopped in front of the OPP detachment

While on patrol of Heritage Drive, Midland near William Street, two members of the  Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police made observations of the speed of two west bound vehicles on Heritage Drive.

Officers were able to get closer to the two suspect vehicles travelling side by each, then in tandem at a high rate of speed and confirmed their speed at 128 Km/hr in an 60 Km/hr zone. The vehicles were safely stopped in front of the OPP Detachment and an investigation into the two drivers was commenced.

The drivers, both 18 yrs of age, one of Midland and the other of North Bay were both charged with the following offences under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario

  • Stunt Driving
  • Race a motor vehicle
  • Speeding 128 Km/hr in an 60 Km/hr zone

And further the Midland driver was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available contrary to the Cannabis Control Act.

And further the North Bay driver was charged with Driving a Motor Vehicle with Open Liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Control Act.

The involved vehicles have been impounded for 14 days and both drivers licences have been suspended for 30 days as per the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines and they have been summoned appear before the Provincial Offences Court on May 19, 2022.
