Orillia OPP are on the hunt for a man they say fled after a traffic stop north of Coldwater on Friday afternoon.

Nearly 12 Ontario Provincial Police vehicles were spotted at a motel on County Road 16 in Fesserton. According to OPP officials, the man had been living at the motel, and had been stopped in the parking lot.

“An officer was attempting to arrest a male and he resisted and fled,” said Const. Ted Dongelmans, media relations with Orillia OPP. “We’ve determined now that he’s not there, so the resources have cleared and we’ll continue the investigation.”

Dongelmans said there is no risk to public safety at this time. He declined to identify why the man was under arrest.

“It’s still under investigation. We don’t believe there is a heightened public risk at this time,” he said.

Dongelmans said further information will be released as the investigation proceeds.
