Southern Georgian Bay OPP issue safe driving reminder after two fatal collisions

They advise to check conditions before you leave, keep your vehicle stocked with winter supplies and never drive impaired

Uniform officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to two tragic fatal crashes along with numerous property damage crashes over the last week on area roadways and trails/ice surfaces. Winter driving requires skill and patience, proper vehicle maintenance along with a driver free of impairing substances.

  • Always drive within your capabilities, to the road and weather conditions and allow for extra driving time to your destination. Check the Ministry of Transportation traveller information website prior to heading out for roadway conditions and possible delays at www.ontario.ca/511
  • Turn your full headlight system on in winter conditions so you can be seen by other motorists, maintain your vehicles tires, wipers, windshield defroster and keep your windows clear of snow & ice.
  • No Ice is Safe Ice, know before you go on ice surfaces, carry a fully charged cell phone with a loaded locating app such as What3WordsGoogle MapsOFSC trail Map should you get lost or become involved in a crash. For more information please view - www.youtube.com
  • Lastly, Never Drive Impaired, impaired driving is impaired driving regardless of what your operating. Please make a plan to get home safely. from a social event.
