Shoplifting suspect caught while leaving the store: OPP

Police say the accused was on a release order from bail court when the incident took place

On July 21, 2020 at 9:24 p.m. a member of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a customer exit an Highway 93 Midland retail store with what appeared to be unpaid store items on his person. The officer spoke with the customer and after some investigation into the officers observations, a quantity of stolen merchandise was recovered.

Charged is Jonathon Fournier 33 years of no fixed address with the following offences,

  • Theft under $5000 - Shoplifting
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 - in Canada

and further charged with - failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada as the accused was on a release order from bail court from previous police investigations.

The accused was held for a video bail hearing and upon release will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland at a future date.
