A single-vehicle crash Wednesday in Tay has led to numerous charges being laid against a Severn resident.

Southern Georgian Bay OPP responded at about 11:30 p.m. to the Highway 400 on-ramp of Highway 12 and found a pickup truck that had left the roadway and flipped over a guardrail.

No one was in the truck, but a fresh set of footprints leading away from the scene was found, police said in a news release. With the assistance of the OPP Central Region Canine Unit and Emergency Response Team, a search began.

About an hour later, an officer patrolling on Sandhill Road was approached by a vehicle carrying several people. The officer noticed one of the passengers was injured and believed it to be the person involved in the collision.

The suspect was asked to provide a breath sample, but refused, so an arrest was made.

Christian Koval, 37, has been charged with failure or refusal to comply with a demand, obstructing a peace officer, resisting a peace officer, failing to remain, and failing to surrender a licence.

The accused was released from custody and has a March 16 court date in Midland. The driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle will be impounded for seven days.
