For many years the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police has partnered with the Safe and Sober Awareness Committee of North Simcoe to raise awareness of the dangers of driving or operating your car, ATV, boat or motorcycle on the roadways, waterways and trails of North Simcoe.

We hope this Victoria Day weekend, drivers and operators will take a moment to heed the following message, especially in these trying times, before they drive or operate their choice of transportation.

We all know that celebrations and parties go hand in hand with your long May 24 weekend. The Safe and Sober Awareness Committee of North Simcoe wants to remind everyone that many car crashes involving younger drivers are caused by inexperience and poor judgment. When these factors are combined with alcohol, cannabis or other drugs, the results can be tragic.

Be responsible and always make it your plan before the partying begins to have a designated driver or safe and sober ride home. #NeverDriveImpaired

Young or old, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is dangerous and illegal. Know what counts as impaired driving — and the penalties you could face for it — before you get behind the wheel.
