MIDLAND - Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted four trailhead R.I.D.E. program check stops over the February family day weekend checking 120 snowmobiles and drivers.

Officers issued ten provincial offences notices to operators who were found to violating sections of Motorized Snow Vehicle Act in relation to speed limits, drivers licences, ownership and insurance requirements.

Snowmobile Crash Investigation:

A 34-year-old Port Severn resident is the subject of a continuing investigation after officers were dispatched to a report of a crash at 7:48 p.m. Feb. 16, 2020 of a snowmobile into a YMCA camp building on Beausoleil Island in Georgian Bay Township.

The operator received minor injuries in the crash and was transported to Georgian Bay General Hospital by County of Simcoe Paramedic services, treated and released.

OPP officers always appreciate calls from the public to alert them of a possible impaired driver on the roadway as an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways and trails by working with our community members.
