Photocopied licence plates lead to arrest in Springwater

SPRINGWATER - On Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021 at 1:33 p.m., officers from the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call at a business on County Road 90 in regards to some property damage that was caused by a vehicle that had fled the scene. Police were able to view video footage of the incident.

A short time later while on patrol, officers observed this vehicle travelling along County Road 90 and realized it was the same vehicle involved in the incident. Police also noticed that the licence plates on the vehicle were colour photo copies and had been laminated with plastic. Police stopped the vehicle, and the driver was arrested on an outstanding warrant for driving while prohibited.

As a result of their investigation, police have charged 43-year-old Wayne Brittain of Barrie with the following:
    •    operation while prohibited
    •    operate motor vehicle no insurance
    •    drive motor vehicle no plates

The vehicle was towed and will remain impounded for 45 days. The driver is scheduled to answer to these charges at the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on Dec. 21, 2021.
