OPP seize loaded gun, ammo, cocaine, cash in drug probe

Two suspects are facing a multitude of charges after Highway 11 traffic stop was conducted in relation to 'ongoing drug trafficking' probe in Simcoe County

A loaded gun, ammunition, drugs, cash and related items were seized from two suspects during a drug bust by Orillia OPP officers.

The Orillia detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested two individuals following a drug trafficking investigation in Simcoe County, seizing a over half a kilogram of illicit drugs (CSDA) and a loaded firearm.

On Feb. 9, 2023, at approximately 2:20 p.m., members of the Orillia Community Street Crime Unit, with support from Central Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11 near the Town of Bracebridge in relation to an ongoing drug trafficking investigation in Simcoe County. 

Police arrested two individuals in the vehicle and seized the following items:

  • Glock 45 calibre handgun (loaded)
  • Separate bag of .45 calibre ammunition
  • 578 grams of cocaine
  • 14 grams of methamphetamine
  • 169 grams of fentanyl
  • $36,000 proceeds
  • Cellular devices
  • Digital scale

As a result, police have charged the following individuals:

Ali Hamieh age 23, of Windsor, with:

  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance, for the purposes of trafficking- opioid (other than heroin) (CDSA)
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance, for the purposes of trafficking- cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance, for the purposes of trafficking- methamphetamine
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device in a careless manner
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a prohibited or restricted weapon
  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo
  • Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order   
  • Possession of proceeds of crime- over $5000 (CC)

The accused was held for a bail hearing on Feb. 10, 2023 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie. 

Mohamed AL Kuhaly, age 19, of Windsor, with:

  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance, for the purposes of trafficking- opioid (other than heroin) (CDSA)
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance, for the purposes of trafficking- cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance, for the purposes of trafficking- methamphetamine
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Transport firearm, weapon, prohibited device in a careless manner
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a prohibited or restricted weapon
  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammo
  • Possession of proceeds of crime- over $5,000 (CC)
