OPP bust up massive grow op, seize 15,000 cannabis plants

Police say there was also a growing site on the property that didn't meet Health Canada regulations; Nine people have been detained

CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES – An investigation led by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) from the City of Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton Highlands detachments resulted in the seizure of 15,300 cannabis plants.  

On Aug. 27, 2020 a Cannabis Act Warrant was executed at a rural property within the City of Kawartha Lakes, with the assistance of the CSCU from the Peterborough and Northumberland OPP detachments as well as the Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Canine Unit. 

Nine persons were detained. However, no charges have yet been laid as the investigation continues.

Some of the items seized included:   

  • 15 300 Cannabis plants  
  • cannabis bud  
  • motor vehicles  
  • industrial sized dehumidifiers  
  • generators  
  • riding lawnmower   

The property featured a very structured growing site that was being operated outside of the Health Canada regulations. The investigation is on-going.
