One person has died following a head-on crash earlier this morning on Highway 12.

Orillia OPP say the two-vehicle collision occurred just before 5 a.m. on Highway 12 at Stagecoach Road in Oro-Medonte Township.

One driver was pronounced deceased. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family members.

The driver of the other vehicle has been airlifted by Ornge to a Toronto-area trauma centre, notes an OPP media release.

Highway 12 will be closed for several hours in both directions, between Line 12 and Moonstone Road, as OPP technical collision investigators and reconstructionists complete their investigation.

"The highway will be closed for several more hours and the public is asked to avoid the area and find alternate routes until further notice," said Orillia OPP Const. Brett Boniface.

More information will be released as it becomes available.

Anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact the Orillia OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
