Officers step up patrols during COVID-19 pandemic

MIDLAND,ON - Since March 17, 2020 members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have stepped up to the task of remaining visible within the communities that we police here in North Simcoe.

"Community residents and business members need be assured that their community is safe with dedicated OPP officers on patrol and responding to calls for service during these unprecedented times " says interim Detachment Commander Inspector Joseph Evans.

Officers from the detachment have been vigilant in their patrols of property and persons during the daylight and nighttime hours as well as ensuring the safe operation of commercial and private vehicles on area roadways.

OPP officers conducting foot patrols since March 17, 2020 to April 29, 2020 have initiated 75 such patrols in parks, trails, mall and town core pedestrian traffic areas in our area communities.

"We appreciate the continued support and understanding and I encourage the community to continue their efforts and remember to participate in physical distancing and stay safe" says Inspector Evans.

Police remind everyone that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries in our communities through public safety initiatives.
