Midland resident arrested at motel, faces compliance charges

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Southern Georgian Bay detachment on Sept. 2, 2020 became involved in an investigation confirming compliance of area charged persons with their judicial release conditions. Uniform officers identified a Midland resident violating those judicial releases conditions and made an arrest at a Yonge Street, Midland motel on Sept. 4, 2020.

As a result of this investigation Matthew Cascanette, 21 years of no fixed address in Midland, has been charged with the following criminal code offences:

  • Fail to comply with probation order (five counts)
  • Failure to comply with release order - other than to attend court

All offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

The accused was released after appearing for a bail hearing via video link and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.
