Midland man faces impaired charge after early morning traffic stop

Police observed vehicle begin driven erratically near Fourth Street and Hugel Avenue early Sunday

An early morning traffic stop on King Street has resulted in a Midland resident being charged with impaired driving.

On November 28 at 2:50 a.m., a member of the Ontario Provincial Police Southern Georgian Bay Detachment was on patrol and stopped a vehicle after observing it being driven erratically while on Hugel Avenue at Fourth Street in the Town of Midland.

While speaking with the driver, the officer smelled alcohol and noticed signs of impairment therefore a roadside screening test was conducted. Following the test, the driver was placed under arrest and transported to detachment to provide further breath samples. 

As a result of the investigation, Ryan Beach, 34 years of Midland, was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while alcohol concentration - 80 or over

The driver's license of the accused has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was towed and impounded for a period of seven days. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice
