Marine unit issues four life jacket violations on weekend patrol

One ticket for a liquor offence and eight charges under the Canada Shipping Act were also laid by local marine unit officers

TINY TOWNSHIP - Despite the public safety messaging, uniform officers assigned to the Southern Georgian Bay detachment Marine Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) still issued four offence notices to mariners for not having life jackets over the weekend.

Four marine officers using two vessels completed 38 hours of patrol over the July 2-4, 2021 period, covering the waters and the areas of Tiny Township Shoreline, Giant's Tomb, Penetang Bay and Six Mile Lake.

Officers checked 28 vessels and issued 28 warnings, along with four charges for insufficient number of life jackets, one ticket for a liquor offence and eight charges under the Canada Shipping Act during their patrols.
