A Barrie man is facing charges in relation to a rash of thefts from vehicles that took place in various locations over the course of more than two years.

In January 2021, Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP began investigating incidents that were first reported in May 2020 and occurred until August 2022.

In a news release, police said the incidents took place in the Collingwood, Huronia West, Midland, Caledon, Orillia, Muskoka and Dufferin areas.

They allege the accused smashed the windows of vehicles parked at trail heads in remote areas and stole money and personal items, resulting in thousands of dollars in damage to the vehicles.

Police have arrested a 42-year-old Barrie man, who has been charged with 10 counts of mischief under $5,000, seven counts of theft from a motor vehicle and one count of failing to comply with probation.

He is set to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on Oct. 18.

Police have not released the name of the accused.

The investigation is continuing, and police believe there could be more instances that have not been reported.
