Local residents help police nab three impaired drivers

If you see a possible impaired driver or operator please dial 911 and help prevent a crash, police say

Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police  (OPP) have removed three impaired drivers from detachment patrolled area roadways in North Simcoe after taking calls from community members since Oct. 24, 2021.

Officers responded at 2:17 a.m. Oct. 31, 2021 to a report by a community member of a Jeep Wrangler parked on the front lawn of a Victoria Street, Midland home still running with a lone driver who was possibly in an unconscious state. Attending officers awoke and spoke with the driver and entered into an impaired driving investigation at the scene. As a result of this investigation Robert Bruce Leonard, 47 years of Victoria Street has been charged with the following offences contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada: 

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released on recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on November 18, 2021 and is subject to the 90 day licence suspension and vehicle impoundment under the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines

At 1:22 a.m. Oct. 30, 2021 a concerned citizen made the call to police and reported a possible impaired driver leave a downtown Midland establishment. OPP officers on patrol observed the suspect red Honda SUV on Southwinds Crescent, Midland and made a vehicle stop and entered into an impaired driving investigation upon speaking with the lone driver. As a result of this investigation, Chad Archibald, 34 years of Midland has been charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was released on recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on November 18, 2021 and is subject to the 90 day licence suspension and vehicle impoundment under the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines

On October 24, 2021 at 12:51 a.m. an OPP officer on patrol in the Town of Midland responded to a community member's report of a possible impaired driver on William Street, Midland. The officer located the suspect white coloured Range Rover nearby and upon speaking with the lone driver, entered into a drinking and driving investigation. During the course of this investigation the officer seized a quantity of open alcoholic beverages. The driver also presented the investigator with several Ontario Drivers Licences of different classification.

As a result of this investigation, Simranjeet Manku, 33 years of Brampton has been charged with the following offences.

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol l- contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) - contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Having care and control of a motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor - contrary to the Liquor Licence Act
  • Possess more than one licence- contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The accused was released on recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Nov. 4, 2021 and is subject to the 90 day licence suspension and vehicle impoundment under the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines
