Local OPP takes two impaired drivers off area roads

Officers stopped 90 vehicles during seven R.I.D.E. check programs

Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to two tips from motorists over the weekend which resulted in two drivers being removed from the roadway and put before the courts. Officers also participated in seven R.I.D.E. check stops, stopping 90 vehicles throughout detachment patrolled roadways and administering six roadside screening device (ASD) tests with six "pass" results.

On July 12, 2020 at 6:36 p.m. OPP officers responded to a report of a possible impaired driver operating a grey pickup truck in the Town of Midland. The vehicle was located behind an Elizabeth Street residence and upon the the driver being spoken by officers they entered into a drinking and driving investigation. As a result of this investigation Jason Corbett, 30 years, of Midland has been charged with the following driving offences:  

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs 
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was towed and impounded for seven (7) days as per the conditions of the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS). Accused was released from police custody on an undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on Sept. 3, 2020.

OPP officers responded at 7:59 p.m. July 10, 2020 to a possible impaired driver who was with a broken down vehicle on Hwy 400 near Quarry Road, Tay Township. Officers upon speaking with the driver entered into a drinking and driving investigation resulting in Katelynn Sweezie, 28 years, of Chatsworth being charged with the following driving offences:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs 
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

OPP officers always appreciate the assistance of the public in the interest of public safety who help remove impaired drivers who present a clear danger to others on the roadway. OPP officers remind drivers that they will be taking all precautions available during this time to protect themselves and others while conducting investigations either at the roadside or at detachment.
