Local OPP Marine Unit has been kept busy this weekend

One boater is facing an impaired charge while four others were charged with having open alcoholic beverages in their boats

Several vessels of the OPP Marine Unit attached to the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were out on patrol of the waters of Georgian Bay on Saturday, July 4, 2020.

Marine officers stopped a number of vessels in the area of Giant's Tomb, Beckwith, Hope and Gin Rocks Islands resulting in one operator being charged with Impaired operation of a vessel and three other vessel operators lost their Ontario Driver's Licences for three days as a result of Roadside Screening Device (ASD) tests while out on the bay.

Four vessel operators were also charged with having open alcoholic beverages in their vessels which carries a $215 fine and a seizure of all of their liquor aboard.

Vessel operators are reminded that OPP Marine Unit officers are out on the water and are checking vessels for equipment and alcohol/impaired driving related offences on the way to those favorite boating destinations. Please practice safe boating skills and enjoy the sun!
