Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) initiated 50 R.I.D.E. check stops in the month of May 2020 on area roadways.

Officers checked 1,235 vehicles and operators in an effort to Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) at various locations on roadways throughout North Simcoe. One driver had their driving privileges suspended for three days or more under the conditions of the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) as a result of "Alert" reading on the Roadside Screening Device.

Participating OPP officers and our community partner - The North Simcoe Safe and Sober Awareness Committee - would like to thank the drivers checked at those R.I.D.E. check stops for making the right choice before getting behind the wheel.

Police remind motorists that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways and trails. Educating the public about safe driving practices is a priority.
