Georgian Bay District Secondary School was placed in lockdown Tuesday after a student entered the school with a water gun that looked like a handgun.
Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers were called to the school on Hugel Avenue in Midland at about 11:30 a.m. after a student was seen on surveillance video entering the school while holding “a pistol-shaped object,” police said in a news release.
The student was located in a classroom and was arrested. Police found a water gun that resembled a Sig Sauer handgun.
The investigation is continuing. The name of the student who was arrested is not being released, per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The lockdown was lifted at about 11:45 p.m., and police say everyone in the school is safe.
