Five boaters cited with lifejacket offences during weekend marine patrol

GEORGIAN BAY TOWNSHIP - Uniform officers assigned to the Southern Georgian Bay detachment Marine Unit of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducting marine patrols on area waterways over the June 11-13, 2021 time period noted a lack lifejacket compliance along with vessel equipment.

Officers provided 25 hours of patrol checking 45 vessels on the waters of Georgian Bay, Trent Severn Waterway and Six Mile Lake and visited four area marinas.

Officers warned four persons and cited five persons with lifejacket offences, warned two persons and cited three persons with liquor violations along with warning 39 mariners and cited five others with Canada Shipping Act violations.

One operator was checked on the approved roadside screening device (ASD) with a pass result.

Officers had a chance to take and submit a photographic moment with a number of youth who aboard a checked vessel - "Got Caught Wearing Their Lifejacket."

This summer, let's be safe on the water and if you see an impaired operator "Make the Call" and dial 911 and help prevent a summer time tragedy.
